If your microwave is already at or over the nine to ten year mark, it does not make much sense to sink money into repairing it. Other parts will fail in the near future and you are sinking money into a dying machine. On the flip side, if your microwave is only a couple of years old, it may make more sense to repair it, as it should still have a long life ahead of it.
Whether You've Been Thinking of Upgrading
Another factor to consider when deciding to repair or replace your microwave is whether you've been thinking about upgrading your appliance. If you have recently changed out your dishwasher or fridge to stainless steel, you may have considered changing your white or black microwave out as well. If you have been toying with the idea of upgrading, it may make more sense just to make the upgrade, rather than to pay for a repair.
The Cost to Replace the Microwave
Lastly, the cost to repair versus the cost to replace the microwave should come into play. You can pick up microwaves relatively inexpensively, while other models may be more costly. If you have a cheap microwave, it may not make sense to pay to repair the unit when you can pick a new one up for about the same price. On the other hand, if your unit is pricey and it only needs a cheap part, it may make more sense to repair it in that instance.
